What to do with Mr. Fripsy when he passes away...?

I have very sweet pet chinchilla that has been my pet for almost 19 years. My vet told me recently that the "bumps" that I have been noticing in its fur are actually tumors and that it doesn't have much longer to live.

I love my mom, but recently she suggested that I could have Mr. Fripsy skinned and tanned after he dies and keep his fur as a reminder of him. This might seem cruel to some, but I am thinking that it would actually be nice to have Mr. Fripsy on my pillow at because it would be just like him to snuggle up to me at night while we both sleep. Has anybody else ever shown their attachment or love to their pet in this way? I am unsure what to do.

What to do with Mr. Fripsy when he passes away...?
When Mr. Fripsy passes, take his "shell" to the taxidermist and have him stuffed and mounted. Then you can set him on your night stand. Sorry to hear Mr. Fripsy is going to die, must be hard on you huh? Good luck!
Reply:I've heard of people who get their dogs or cats preserved by a taxidermist when they die, so this isn't really that much more strange.

I couldn't do it to my pets, but if it is comforting to you then I say go for it.
Reply:Get him cremated and save a lock of his fur to remember how soft he was. Otherwise you may be bordering on the side of unhealthy obsession.

Take lots of pictures to remember him by.

Sorry to hear of your imminent loss.
Reply:You can have him cremated and then put his ashes in your room somewhere so you can always see them. Or bury him in your yard where you live. You can skin him if youd like too. I guess it is up to you on what you want to do...and maybe price too.
Reply:How each of us deal with loss and how we choose to be comforted is our own buisness- you are going to get allot of bs for this question- but there is nothing wrong with doing this.

I know of a few people who have stuffed and mounted theirpets- most are not satisfied in the long run because the pet looks generic- not really like 'who they were' anymore- and the fur wears out...

I know of one person who buries pets in pots, and removed the clean skulls (not sure how long) and places them in a beautiful shrine- it is very repectful and beautiful.

If you keep just his skin, rather than stuffing him, you may be more satified- as the skin will be soft and flexible.

And no, it's not cruel. When you die only your body is left. It is just a shell ...
Reply:I feel ur pain my hamster had the same thing (tear) Very interesting i didn no it was a tumur thanx 4 writing that down now i no wat happened to my hamster. I was so attached to my hamster that i when he died i cried for months straight and i still cry everytime i remember him. I feel so sorry for u. But i think its very good that ur going to take ur pets fur for a pillow. But think about if this pillow would make u sad everytime u look at it? Wat i did for my hamster was burry him in my backyard. I put many things in the box that belonged to me and him and his toys around. I always go to visit this place to remember about him. My answer to u is to do wat would make u feel better.
